The Management of the Gambia OIC Secretariat and partners led the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the OIC on a tour of the 20 new roads project implemented by the Secretariat ahead of the 2022 OIC Summit.
The LOC provides input and support to the Secretariat in preparation of the summit and consist of various subcommittees that work collectively to ensure the adequate planning and successful hosting of the Summit.
The purpose of the visit was to gauge the current state of the roads in anticipation of the construction which is set to commerce in March 2021.
The Chairperson of the LOC, Binta Jammeh Sidibe thanked the Secretariat for the visit saying their role is to support the Secretariat. “Having seen the roads, the committee can now offer more inputs and suggestions for improvement,” she said.
The Chief Executive Officer of the OICGambia, Mr. Yankuba Dibba said the tour will give the committee an appreciation of the roads and the work ahead.
The Consultants of the project informed the delegation that the initial design of the roads will be done mid-December. The delegation consists of the OIC, LOC, National Roads Authority, Consultants and Project Managers.
During the visit, West Coast Radio journalist, Alhagie Colley spoke to elders of the beneficiary communities. They lamented their ordeal during the raining season and how inaccessible their roads become.
They hailed the OIC for the project and prayed for its successful implementation. Communities visited include Sukuta, Latrikunda Sabiji, Kololi Tavern, Bijilo, Brufut, Sukuta Nemasu, Wullingkama among others.
